Restaurant Review: Red Egg - A Dim Sum Lounge

2:15 PM Posted by Brittany Mendenhall

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the relaunch of Red Egg, a cute dim sum place downtown. Located at 202 Centre Street, I grabbed Kristina Marino and Shea Jenkins and off we went in search of passed apps.

We headed to the packed bar and had a few rounds of drinks. None of the food was making its way to us so we headed further in to the restaurant to check out the scene and get closer to the kitchen.

Red Egg holds a little over 100 people and is definitely a chic and trendy space. Owner Darren Wan hired Adam Hayes and Mark Kroeckel of Open Shop Studio to turn the venue into the type of place you would see on Sex and the City.

While we mingled with the crowd we nibbled on the treats coming from the kitchen. I love shrimp and I was very happy to see shrimp egg rolls and shrimp dumplings in rotation. The steamed roast pork buns were also very delicious.

I'll be going back for the dinner in a few weeks so I'll be able to give you a bigger lowdown on the food. But for now you can check it out for yourself.
Red Egg is opened Monday – Friday from 11am-11pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 11pm. Lunch price points run from $9-$20, dinner from $15-$30 and dim sum from $3.50 - $6.50.
